Internal Family Systems (IFS) & Parts Work:
Healing from Within
You are More Than Your Symptoms
Have you ever said, "A part of me wants to change, but another part of me is terrified to let go"? We all have an internal world made up of different "parts"—like a family living under one roof. Sometimes, due to past trauma or stress, these parts get stuck in extreme roles.
Anxiety might be a part trying to scan for danger. Depression might be a part trying to shut the system down to prevent further hurt. At Renewed Hope Therapy, I use Internal Family Systems (IFS) to help you move from internal conflict to internal harmony.
Examples of Parts we may explore
In our work together, we get to know your internal system without judgment:
The Managers: These parts run your daily life. They strive for perfection, keep you organized, and try to make sure you are never rejected or hurt again.
The Exiles: These are the younger, wounded parts of you that carry the weight of past trauma, shame, or loneliness. We often "lock them away" to survive, but they still drive our emotional reactions.
The Firefighters: When an "Exile" gets triggered and the pain becomes too much, Firefighters jump in to douse the emotional flames. This can look like impulsive behaviors, binge-eating, anger outbursts, or dissociation.

Connecting with Your "Self"
At the core of every person is the Self. The Self is not a part; it is your seat of consciousness characterized by the 8 Cs: Calm, Curiosity, Compassion, Confidence, Courage, Clarity, Connectedness, and Creativity.
The goal of our therapy is not to eliminate your parts, but to lead them. Using IFS, we help your "Protectors" (Managers and Firefighters) feel safe enough to relax, allowing you to witness and heal your "Exiles" from a place of compassion rather than fear.
How IFS Complements EMDR & ART
IFS provides the "map" for our sessions, while EMDR and ART provide the "engine" for reprocessing.
We use Parts Work to identify which part of you is triggered.
We use EMDR 2.0/ART to clear the traumatic charge that the part is carrying.
This combination allows for deep, permanent healing that feels gentle and respectful to your entire system.
Is Parts Work Right for You?
IFS is exceptionally effective for:
Internal Conflict: Feeling "stuck" between two choices or emotions.
Self-Critical Thoughts: Silencing the "inner critic" and building self-compassion.
Complex Trauma (C-PTSD): Healing long-standing patterns from childhood.
Addictive or Impulsive Behaviors: Understanding the protective intent behind "Firefighter" actions.
